1st CHAPTER

1st CHAPTERDo you know how it feels like, when you know that you are different? Sometimes I think my whole family hates me …well my father, that is. Actually, there are only two people in my family, my father and myself. My mother died when I was little, and I do not have any siblings. I have grandmothers and an aunt from my mother’s side, but I have not seen them in a while. The reason my father hates me is because I am powerless. Being born in the strongest witches clan, and not being able to do one simple thing as a witch, can really bring person down. However, at some point along the way, I stopped caring. Only person in my household, who loves me, is my fat cat, well if you can call him person. The funny thing is he does not love anyone except me. He follows me, wherever I go, always trying to make me pet him. He is very afraid of my father, for what reason, I do not know. But then again, a lot, and I mean, A LOT of people are afraid of my father, and some of them are not even people, they are creatures of the night!I suppose my father is disappointed in life, because his only child is simple human. Being a witch without powers makes me human, and my children will probably be without powers, as well, so his bloodline would be extinguished. Bloodlines are very important for my kind; it tells us who our ancestors are, and what kind of powers we can have. In my case, I was supposed to have an ice element, but I cannot even create an ice cube, let alone freeze someone. My feet’s and hands are always cold, and sometimes it takes me forever to warm myself, but that doesn’t mean I have ice power, it probably means my blood circulation is bad. As long as I know about witches, I live among the normal people, as many of us do, but that is not our real home. We live up in the sky, somewhere in-between land and sky, in flying fortresses. I have never been in one, but I heard that they are big, never moving castles, who are guarded by dragons. Well the dragon part is a legend; nobody has seen one in thousands of years. Nevertheless, that does not mean they do not exist. When I think about it, I have only seen a creature of dark once in my whole life. When I was six, I saw my father killing one in our dungeon. I, being six, was definitely not supposed to be there. When my father saw me, he was pissed, but the strangest part was how the darkling acted when he saw me. He said only one thing before my father stabbed his heart whit a sword.“So the rumours are true…” These were his last words.I tried to forget that day; it was the day when my father began to hate me. A short time after, my mother died, I became an outcast, and my father’s biggest mistake. It has been almost fifteen years, from that day; my life has not changed much. I am twenty-one now, I live with people, but do not socialize with them. I never talk with my father. The house is big so I am able to avoid him. I go to school. People call me the “ice queen” behind my back, but I don’t care. As soon as I finish college, I will leave my house, never to see their faces again. I will be free. However, things in life are never that simple. I never imagine that my father would not let me go; I was so positive, he would be glad I am out of his way. Then one day he told me the news regarding my future.Have you ever had one of those days when it is so much better to stay in bed and sleep all day? Well today is officially the worst day of my life. First, my alarm clock did not go off, and then my crazy cat tried to kill me. He was trying to make me pet him, and that ended up with me lying across the floor after I tripped over him. Imagine if he tripped me down the stairs! He really needs to learn not to tangle between my legs. When I finally got ready, I was already late for classes, but that wasn’t worrying me. It was that very dark sky with heavy clouds gathering around. In a half way to collage, it started raining, and when I got there, I was wet and guaranteed to catch a cold. You think that’s bad? The bad things didn’t stop happening! For the rest of my day I almost insulted one of the professors, dropped my lunch, bruised my knee, and almost got kicked from the exam. Yea…life for me couldn’t get any worse… at least that’s what I thought. When I finally got home, I silently thanked God that I was still alive. My house was almost in complete dark and only light was coming from dining room. That was odd, because my father always works in his office at this time of the day, well that is when he is home. I silently closed the door, trying not to make noise, but my fat cat jumped towards me, making me lose my balance and fall on my ass. Like I wasn’t in pain already! Oh great, I thought getting up, now my father has definitely heard me. I turned around, and there he was, standing in a doorway and looking at me. I just stood there for a couple of moment, then nodded my head, like saying a hello, then started walking toward the stares.“Wait, I need to talk to you.” He said. “Please it’s important.”Now this is weird, because I never heard my father saying please to me. I have to say, I was intrigued now. He turned around and went back to the dining room, and shortly after I walked in behind him. He set in his ‘special’ chair, the one he always seats in, when he is holding that grand gathering of witches elite, the ones I was never aloud to show my presence. However, I always got a sneak pick at what was happening, being careful not to be seen. He shows me the seat close to him. Before he spoke, he took a few deep breaths, almost as if it was too difficult for him to talk to me. Hey, it’s not as if I want to be here.“Before I begin” He said “you must promise not to interrupt me. After I am finished, you can ask me any question you like and I will gladly give you an answer. ”I just nodded my head, shifting in my chair, somehow knowing I wouldn’t like what he is about to tell me.“Well…” He started “you are growing up, and there is a little thing called future, to think about. “I was just about to tell him that I know what am I to do, regarding my future, but he raised his finger, making me remember my promise of not interrupting him.“After a great deal of consideration,” He continued “It was decided for you to get married.”When he said that, he finally looked me in eyes, I guess trying to read my emotions. I wasn’t looking at him. I snapped back in reality when he called my name, twice.“Sinaia”…. (Pronounced: Si – nay- i – a), he said, waiving his hand in front of my face.God, how I hate when he calls me by my witch – name. Every child, who is born in witches’ clan, gets a witch - name on a day he or she is born. It is some kind of tradition, but I wouldn’t know, because I only have little contact with witches and warlocks, and their life style. All I have learned was from my mother when she was alive, and spying my father and his guests. My witch – name, Sinaia means sword, and I can count on fingers how many times I heard him calling me that. When he needs me for something, he usually gets the house cleaner to tell me. Some father he is, I don’t know what I hate more. Him or the fact that universe screwed me over for my powers. However, right now my head is totally blank, so I can’t tell.“Sinaia” he said once more, lightly shaking me by my shoulder.“No!” I said looking directly at him, with cold expression.~I watched as my child defies me. She looked so much like her mother at that moment, but she was much colder than my dear wife was. Nevertheless, no matter how much she is angry, or how much she hates me, this is something that has to be done. It’s not as if I have a choice about this matter. I never wanted things to go this far, but what was done, it is done, and there is no going back. I will drag her myself to the altar if I have to, I maybe someday she will understand. ~ Thought Sinaia’s Father.“You are not in a position to refuse, you will do what am I asking, no, not asking, demanding to do! Is that clear young lady?!” He said raising his voice.“No!” I said. My anger and hate must have been showing on my face because suddenly the back of his hand made a contact with my cheek, and I must say I was surprised. I let my head down, allowing my hair to fall in front of my eyes, because I didn’t want him to see watery eyes. That bastard really hit me. How dare he! There’s no way in hell I’m going to listen to him now. I stood from the table and went in the hallway, picking my bag and going to my room. He followed me, and stood by the door of the dining room. I didn’t look at him once; I just walked to the stairs walking to my room. He didn’t say anything. When I got in my room, I flicked the light, and dropped on the floor, letting my back slid down the door. Then my telephone rang, and I dragged my body to my dresser to pick up the phone.“Honey, how are you doing?” I heard my grandmas’ voice on the other end.Great, just what I need, to talk with my crazy grandmother!“Sinaia is not nice to call me crazy.” She said, but I never said it aloud, I only thought it. I always forget that she is can read your emotions and thoughts.“Honey, I heard the news, about you getting married, and I just wanted to tell you a couple of things.” “Grandma please, I am cold, hungry, depressed, and forced in to a marriage I don’t want. If you know a way how to get out of this situation than tell me. Otherwise just…..shut up.” I must say I as surprised with a tone of my own voice, but I didn’t care even if I offended her. She obviously didn’t know what to say, so she was quiet for a couple of moments, and then spoke as if nothing happened before.“Well, I have only few advices to give you. First, glass is sharp, so watch not to cut yourself, second, werewolves have little pieces of magic in themselves, and last, in a backyard of my house is a big oak tree that looks completely terrifying at night. Bye sweaty, I will see you soon.” That was the last thing I heard before putting the headphone down.I can’t believe my father was right, his mother is crazy! Silence once more filed my big room, and for the first time in my life, I really found myself completely desperate for a solution for this situation. I looked at my table and there was my mother, in a silver frame, smiling at me. I went to the table, grabbed the frame I threw it in the wall. It broke in a million pieces and one of the glass shards went back and cut my hand. I saw the blood dripping from the wound, on the carpet, and thought that maybe my grandma wasn’t crazy at all. After I cleaned my hand in a bathroom, I seat on my bed, thinking my way out. I didn’t have a place to go. I had money for the start, but what was I to do later, I had to find some job. Also, what about school, I shouldn’t just give that up. All those years of studying and for what? Come on, think, there must be something that I could do. Than it hit me, maybe my other grandma can help me. I quickly picked up a phone, only to find out, that bastard disconnected it. This is it, I can’t take it anymore, even if I have to kill someone, I am getting out of here. I stormed to my closet and picked my backpack, throwing things in it randomly. After I was done with that, I took my secret stash of money and put it in my pocket. Then I heard footsteps walking towards my room, and before I could do anything, my father opened the door. He stood there looking at me, saying absolutely nothing.“Ever heard of knocking?” I asked raising my eyebrow.“Last time I checked this was still my house.”“Last time I checked, this was still my room! “ I yelled at him.“Not for long.” he said. “I see that you are ready to go and that is good, because we are leaving now, but you will not going to need that.” He said pointing at my backpack.I wanted to ask way, but then he saw a picture of my mother lying on the floor with glass shards all around it, and his face became every angry. He looked at me and asked seven simple words:“What has she ever done to you?”“She died and left me with you.”He didn’t say anything on my remark, and just stood there for a couple of moments, before he turned around telling me to follow him. He went all the way downstairs, and I followed dragging my body, as I am going on execution. He stopped in front of basement doors, waiting for me to join him. Large, green, wooden door opened themselves, he didn’t even touch them, showing a medium sized dark room. The candles across the room lightened themselves and I could see a strange stone pillar, in the middle of a stone room, with a white orb on his top. I followed him and stood by the small pillar, which was about a meter high, and looked at my father. Without a single question, he took my arm and touched with his free one the white orb. Everything before my eyes started to disappear, and it was replaced with new colors and shapes. Before I knew it, I found myself in a completely new and unfamiliar place.
